A few years ago our campfire area was relocated to the backside of the Depot building and has now been enlarged to enable more guests to enjoy sitting around the fire visiting and making s’mores. We have added a selection of classic 70’s era colored chairs reclaimed from the old Two Harbors High School Cafeteria - nothing like some old school furniture to make you feel like a kid again! We’ve also added some Adirondak chairs and a lawn swing for guests to enjoy sitting outside with a good book or just listening to the birds and watching the deer.
Northern Rail has completed phase one of “Going Green”! We have changed from the little bottles of shampoo and bars of soap to pump dispensers in the shower with body wash, conditioning shampoo (2 in 1) and body lotion. Sink side we have switched to pump soap dispensers as well. We have changed out most all of our light bulbs, switching them to compact florescent bulbs that last longer and use less energy. Future plans to reduce our carbon footprint involve some insulating and roofing projects along with exploration into solar options.
In October of 2013 Cyndi and Jeff Ryder purchased the hotel and are the new Innkeepers at Northern Rail Traincar Inn.
In December of 2014 we have added all new 32” Flat Screen TV’s with built in DVD players. We switched to a new reservation system that should help with running the business a little smoother. Bear with us as we learn the new computer system and the new software!
In April of 2016 we replaced the entire hallway for an improved walkway and a reduction in noise level. We also replaced the lobby flooring and added an HO scale train around the ceiling! More work to be done on it April 2018!
In November of 2017 wea added improved in-room Wi-Fi access.
In April of 2018 we added on-line booking and room availability checking. During this month we are also giving each of the rooms a little TLC including the addition of room darkening roller shades - they’re especially nice for when the sun comes up at 4:30 a.m.!!!
